How to delete your data

Back On Track has no accounts and no servers that hold your information. Everything you enter is kept only on your phone, in an encrypted database, so you delete it yourself, in the app, at any time. Nothing needs to be sent to us and there is nothing to wait for.

The quickest way: Settings › Delete my data… › Everything (start fresh). Uninstalling the app also deletes all of it.

Delete all your data in the app

1

Open Settings

Open Back On Track and unlock it, then go to Settings.

2

Tap "Delete my data…"

Scroll to the Delete my data card at the bottom and tap Delete my data…

3

Choose "Everything (start fresh)"

Read what will be deleted and tap Continue. You'll be offered a backup first - you can skip it.

4

Confirm

Type DELETE, then confirm it's you with your fingerprint, face or phone PIN. Your data is erased straight away.

What is deleted

  • Your income, expenses, money in and out, transfers and pay received
  • Your accounts, bills, debts, savings, goals and net worth items
  • Imported statement transactions and what imports learned (shop categories and bank file layouts)
  • Kept receipt photos and their encryption key
  • Your categories, tags, profile, reminders and settings
  • Any remembered backup password, and backup files held in the app's own storage
  • The encrypted database itself and its encryption key

The app then starts fresh, as if newly installed. Deleted data can't be recovered unless you kept a backup file.

Or uninstall the app

Removing the app deletes all of its data from your phone, in the same way:

  • Android: uninstall Back On Track, or go to your phone's Settings › Apps › Back On Track › Storage › Clear storage.
  • iPhone or iPad: delete the app.

The app keeps its data out of automatic Google cloud backups, so reinstalling it doesn't bring your data back.

Delete only your transactions

To start your tracking again but keep the accounts and bills you set up, choose Settings › Delete my data… › Just my transactions, then follow the same confirmation steps. You choose whether your balances are kept (carried forward to today) or all set to 0.

Deleted

  • Every expense, deposit, withdrawal, transfer and pay received
  • Your imported statements (they can no longer be undone)
  • Kept receipt photos

Kept on your phone

  • Your accounts, bills and debts, income, savings goals, net worth items and standing orders
  • Your categories, tags, profile and settings
  • What imports learned, unless you choose "Delete them too"

What isn't deleted, and how long it's kept

  • By us: nothing to keep. Deserve & Associates Ltd (DASL) never receives your data, so we hold nothing about you and there is no retention period on our side.
  • Backup files you saved yourself (for example on Google Drive, in email or on a computer) are not touched by the app. They stay until you delete them from wherever you saved them.
  • Google Play subscription records. Your subscription and payment are handled by Google Play. Deleting your data doesn't cancel a subscription: cancel it in Google Play › Payments & subscriptions. Google keeps its purchase records under the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Optional shop name suggestions. If you turned on "Suggest shop names", the text you typed and your approximate location were sent directly to Google Maps to find businesses. Google handles this under its own privacy policy; we never receive it.
  • Receipt scanning diagnostics (Android). Google's text recognition (ML Kit) may send Google technical diagnostics, such as device model, app version and how long recognition took, with device and installation identifiers. It never includes your photos or the text read from them. Google handles and keeps this under its own policies.

Lost your phone, or need help?

Your data is only on that phone, encrypted and locked behind your fingerprint, face or PIN. To remove it from a lost phone, erase the phone remotely (on Android, with Google's Find My Device).
